Introducing new pricing

by eelco

As early as 30 days after launch and recently again I've written about thinking of changing the prices. This is not just an idea I had but came from customers and leads (who didn't become a customer).

I launched Muna as your typical SaaS. A service you pay a fixed monthly or yearly fee for with different tiers. But while some customers were perfectly happy with this, in other cases some were paying way too much for what they were actually using. As a business, but also personally, this felt wrong.

“Some customers were paying way too much for what they were actually using. As a business, but also personally, this felt wrong.”

Through feedback from said blog posts and chats with customers, I knew there is a better way about it. That's when I started to play with some numbers.

Price before and after new pricing structure

Above graph shows the before (light blue) and after (dark blue). In some cases, the price was almost double! No way I could justify this to myself.

The new pricing is usage-based. This means that you pay per employee, so only for what you really use. With the former tiers-based pricing, when you had 46 employees you were in the most expensive plan at €399. This is now €190. Big difference! And also the reason for some leads to not convert. Ouch.

I'll also removed the trial period of 15 days. You can now use Muna free forever with a maximum of five employees. No hard limits otherwise. This change is two-fold:

  1. Start the trial whenever you want. One might create an account and then not have time to use it or simply forget about it.
  2. By having companies using Muna early-stage, I'll hope they stick around once they surpass the 5 employees-limit. Considering the amazing value Muna provides, this should be fairly easy.

Decrease in revenue with the new pricing

Revenue will take a hit short-term, but by introducing these new prices now, I'll hope the gains long-term will exceed this hit easily.

When are these new prices in effect?

These new prices are already in place. Last few days I emailed all customers to tell them the good news since for all of them the monthly bill will be lower than before. Happy customers, happy business.

What is the new price?

The new price will be €4 per employee. Where the first five are free. You can check out the pricing page here. There's a little calculator you can use to see how much Muna will cost you or you can sign up directly here.
